German on Your Windows XP Computer

Compared to earlier versions of the Windows operating system (OS), the new Windows XP OS is much more foreign-language friendly. Microsoft has included many new multilingual features in XP Professional (but fewer in the XP Home edition) that will help English-speaking users when they want to use German or other languages. Microsoft Office and Word also have much better multilingual support included, mostly because German proofing tools are now a standard option for English editions (US, UK, etc.) of the world's most common word processor. There are also 24 different localized versions of Windows XP Pro in various languages, including German.

There are several levels of multilingual support in Windows XP. Some are for the typical user, while others are aimed more at network administrators. You also have a choice of using a localized version (e.g., German in Germany) or an English version with foreign-language options.

Configuring Windows XP for Multiple Languages
You can add, enable, and configure support for multiple languages using the Regional Settings tool in the Control Panel.

To change the default language:
1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
2. Double-click Regional and Language Options.
3. Click the Languages tab.
4. Click Details, then Add.
5. Under Input Language, add the language you want.
6. Under Keyboard Layout/IME, click the keyboard layout you want to use.
7. Click OK.

The Language Bar
To switch languages in Windows XP, instead of the old control panels of Windows 95/98/ME you use the new “Language” bar. But first, you have to add multiple languages or multiple keyboard layouts using the Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel (see above). The Language bar is also used with handwriting recognition, speech recognition, or an Input Method Editor (IME). It also functions in various programs, such as Word. The Language bar is a floating tool bar that can be moved to different locations on the monitor screen.

Besides languages, you can also change date, currency, and time formatting (24-hour time, European date formats). Using the Language bar, users' language settings are stored in their user profile. Even on a network, your language profile setting travels with you if you change computers. Here's how the Language bar works:

To switch languages or keyboards:
1. On the Language bar, click the button representing language [EN, DE, etc.] or keyboards.
2. On the menu, click a language or keyboard layout.

Language settings can also be changed using the Language button in the task bar when the Language bar has been minimized.

The Multilingual User Interface Pack
From Microsoft's Win XP site: “Allows users to easily create, read, and edit documents in many languages with the English version of Windows XP Professional. The Multilingual User Interface Pack, an add-on pack to the English version of Windows XP Professional, lets you change the user interface language for each user. - IT administrators will no longer need to deploy multiple localized versions of the operating system. This will speed deployments, reduce operating system images, and lower cost of ownership.”

For the average user, the Windows XP Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUIP, available in 33 languages) means more control over the language of the keyboard. Although you can switch the language for the entire on-screen user interface (i.e., dialog boxes and menus in German instead of English), most people won't want to do that.

The MUIP runs on top of the English version of Windows XP Pro and is an improved version of the MUIP that came with Windows 2000. The Multilingual User Interface Pack is only available together with Windows XP Pro, and must installed separately after the Windows XP operating system installation.

Office/Word XP (Mac and Windows)
Thanks to the German dictionary, thesaurus and grammar checker now included on the Word XP CD-ROM, you now can check a document in German or mixed English-and-German for grammar and spelling. But because Microsoft doesn't really automate the process very well, we have a how-to guide on Proofing German in Word.

Install Windows XP lewat USB Flash Disk

Menginstall Windows XP di perangkat komputer yang tak memiliki drive optik memang susah-susah gampang. Salah satu metode yang biasa dipakai antara lain memanfaatkan DVDROM external berbasis USB atau langsung memakai USB Flashdisk sebagai media installernya. Nah berikut adalah tutorial tentang bagaimana mempersiapkan USB Flashdisk sebagai Installer Windows XP.

*) Pertama alat dan bahan

1. Sebuah komputer atau laptop yang dilengkapi optical drive (CD atau DVD) dan port USB yang bekerja baik.
2. Sebuah USB flashdisk berkapasitas minimal 1 GB.
3. CD instalasi Windows Xp. Ane tadi pake yang SP 2.
4. Aplikasi pembuat modul instalasi

*) Langkah-langkahnya

1. Tancapkan USB flashdisk ke salah satu port USB. Ingat-ingat posisi drive-nya. Apakah F:, G:, H:, dan sebagainya.

2. Masukkan CD instalasi Windows XP ke CD atau DVD drive. Jika komputer menjalankan proses instalasi secara otomatis, batalin aja and tutup semua aplikasi yang berjalan.

3. Ekstrak aplikasi yang di download tadi. Ekstrak seluruh isinya ke sebuah folder, semisal C:\XPUSB (bikin folder baru).

4. Selanjutnya, buka folder di mana temen-temen mengekstrak aplikasi modul pembuat instalasi, kali ini kita ambil contoh C:\XPUSB.

5. Jalankan file bernama “usb_prep8.bat” maka di layar monitor muncul jendela Command Prompt berisi macam-macam perintah. Jika sudah muncul tulisan “Press any key to continue” tekan sembarang tombol untuk konfirmasi.

6. Di layar akan muncul jendela PEtoUSB yang minta memformat USB flashdisk temen-temen. Settingnya nggak usah di ubah-ubah, langsung klik Start untuk mulai format. Jawab konfirmasi sesuai kebutuhan.

7. Kalau udah selesai, tutup jendela PEtoUSB (jangan menutup jendela Command Prompt yang tadi terbuka ketika temen-temen menjalankan usb_prep8.bat), maka di layar akan muncul opsi-opsi dari 0 hingga 5.

8. Gunakan opsi 1 untuk memilih sumber file instalasi yang nantinya akan dicopy ke flashdisk. Tentukan di drive mana temen-temen menyimpan instalasi Windows XP. Pilih aja optical drive di mana ada CD Windows XP nya yang tadi dimasukin.

9. Pilih opsi 3 untuk menentukan di mana temen-temen mencolokan flashdisk. Kalau flashdisk berada di drive F:, maka ketik F dan tekan ENTER. Jika drive G: maka ketik G dan tekan ENTER.

10. Selanjutnya pilih opsi 4 untuk mulai proses pembuatan modul instalasi yang nantinya akan dicopy ke flash disk secara otomatis. Jawab semua konfirmasi yang muncul dengan Y atau YES atau OK.

Selesai! Kini USB flashdisk temen-temen udah siap buat nginstall Windows XP! Jangan lupa kalau mau nginstal di setting dulu BIOS (tekan F2 saat booting) netbook temen-temen. Pilih BOOT –> Removeable Disk (atau apa pun nama lainnya) sebagai yang pertama dijalankan saat booting..

Explained in details- if the line is NOT present and you attempt to do Repair install from the USB disk/stick, Setup will NOT see your Windows installation.
This entry in the boot menu must NOT be used to start Windows, exactly as it says- "NOT to Start Microsoft Windows XP Professional".

If you are not planning to do Repair install simply remove the line from BOOT.INI.
If you are planning to to Repair install, but the line bothers you- simply decrease the timeout in BOOT.INI to 5,3,1... seconds.
If you are planning to do Repair install and the line doesn't bother you- simply ignore it at start big_smile

Disable configuration progress Office

The fix to the problem is very simple as it turns out - simply run the following commands by typing it into the Start/Run command box. Use the line with Office\11.0 if you have Office 2003 installed and Office\12.0 if you have Office 2007 installed. You can use both if you have both installed :

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

That is it. Office 2007 might want to have one more spin round the block with it's configuration dialog box, but that should be it.

I'm not sure if this fix will work with Windows 7, but I know it works with XP & Vista.

Saya dapet job untuk service Notebooknya Client, dia minta Downgrade OS ( Operating SYSTEM ) yang tadinya Windows VISTA ke Windows XP. Terang saja HP compaq CQ40 harus di downgrade BIOS terlebih dahulu agar sound-nya bisa jalan di Windows xp, Nagh, ini dia masalahnya,

setelah saya downgrade tuh BIOS_nya ternyata Notebook HP CQ40-337TU nya tewas crying alias gak bisa Booting ( inikah dia yang disebut gagal downgrade BIOs ?

dalam hati bertanya2, setelah buka Google, alangkah terkejutnya setalah saya tau jawabanya, ternyta tugh Notebook HP CQ40-337TU nya tewas atao gak bisa booting karena efek dari gagal Downgrade BIOS,

Astagfirullah………

apakah ini Cobaan ??

Tapi percayalah setiap masalah pasti ada jalan keluarnya ;) dan akhirnya saya menemukan solusi terbaik yang membuat BIOS dari Notebook HP CQ40-337TU kembali hidup :)

berikut langsung ajah saya kasih tahu Cara Recovery Bios pada Compaq CQ40 karena Gagal Downgrade Bios;

- cari Download BIOS dari Notebook HP CQ40 anda, typenya harus benar2 sesuai, karena kadang beda type beda Type Bios, Cari ajah di website resmi HPnya, biasanya download BIOS juga terdapat pada driver list. Biasanya bernama Winflash Win. Vista BASED

- Setelah menemukan yang pas, install ke Flashdisk file Tsb ( bisa diinstall dari komputer lain dengan path ke removeable drive / Flasdisk ),

- setelah terinstall, ke path Flashdisk, rename file 30F7F04.FD menjadi 30F7.BIN, biasanya ada 2 file yang berektensi FD, tapi anda harus mencobanya satu satu.

- Cabut Batre Notebook anda yang biosnya pengen direcovery TSB, cabut Juga kabel powernya.

- Colokin Flashdisk yang sudah berisi file BIos / WINflash tsb. ke salah satu port USB Notebook.

- tekan tombol “B” + tombol “Windows” pada keyboard, tahan, pasang AC Power, tekan tombol Powernya, setelah terlihat LED touchpad berwarna merah lepaskan “B” + “windosnya”.

- setelah terdengar bunyi BIP, biarkan saja hingga Notebooknya shoutdown dengan denga sendirinya,

- Cabut Flashdisknya, nyalakan power notebook.

Alhamdulillah….melalui langkah2 diatas saya berhasil meRecovery Bios pada Compaq CQ40 karena Gagal Downgrade Bios happy

mungkin kerja keras adalah energi kita untuk bisa berhasil atau menyelesaikan masalah.

Downgrade Bios Notebook Compaq CQ-40

Semakin hari semakin banyak saja penggemar notebook atau laptop. Dan sepertinya ini akan menggeser Handphone yang beberapa tahun lalu juga booming, dan sekarang bisa dibilang setiap orang punya handphoe. Notebook yang sedang saya omongkan disini adalah notebook Compaq dengan keluaran terbarunya seri CQ dengan CQ-40 yang banyak penggemarnya. Benar ga ya penggemar Compaq CQ-40, atau mungkin karena seri terbaru yang keluar adalah seri CQ maka sekarang banyak yang membeli notebook Compaq seri CQ-40. Yang jelas saat ini hampir semua pembeli notebook Compaq membeli seri CQ, baik seri CQ-20, CQ-40, CQ-45 ataupun CQ-60.

Ngomong-ngomong masalah notebook Compaq seri CQ-40 mungkin ada sedikit atau banyak yang bingung dengan notebook tersebut. Apa gerangan penyebabnya? Kalau diinstall XP nggak bisa keluar suara atau audionya. Tau penyebabnya apa? Karena masalah dengan BIOSnya. Agar bisa keluar suara atau audionya maka kita harus downgrade ke versi F. 11E. Untuk masalah sebenarnya apa yang terjadi kenapa harus di downgrade ke versi F. 11E saya sendiri kurang tahu menahu, silahkan tanyakan ke yang lebih ahli.
Apakah kalau didowngrade nggak akan menurunkan performa notebook? Menurut saya sih nggak, nggak tahu kalau menurut yang lebih ahli atau lebih paham dengan komputer. Lalu apa nggak ada efek sampingnya didowngrade? Jawab saya, ADA…!
Efek samping dari downgrade ke versi F.11E

1. Lampu indikator saat notebook di Charge posisi mati tidak fungsi atau menyala. Ini sebenarnya tidak ada masalah, karena sebenarnya baterai tetap mencharge atau ngisi, hanya saja indikatornya mati. Untuk tahu full atau belum dikira-kira saja biasanya berapa jam, mungkin 1 s/d 2 jam.
2. Beberapa fungsi tombol keyboard yang difungsikan bersamaan dengan tombol fn tidak fungsi. Menurut saya ini tidak fatal, karena beberapa tombol tersebut memang tidak terlalu penting.
3. Menghilangkan bunyi TUK-TUK. Dibeberapa seri CQ-40 hampir sebagian besar bunyi seperti itu. Tapi itu bukan suatu maslah, karena itu normal, katanya. Nash downgrade ini bisa mengurangi bunyi TUK-TUK tersebut, namun tidak 100% hilang, hanya mengurangi, lumayan kan…?
4. Audio bisa terdeteksi. Jika sebelum didowngrade ke F.11E Audionya tidak bisa deteck, maka setelah didowngrade bisa deteck atau bisa diinstall.
Semua ini nanti bisa dikembalikan atau menghilangkan efek samping tersebut jika kita mengupgrade kembali BIOSnya ke F.24.

Cara Downgrade Compaq CQ-40

1. Lihat dulu di bios apakah versi yang digunakan sudah versi F.11 atau masih F.12
Jika sudah F11 maka berarti biosnya sudah di downgrade. Caranya anda harus masuk BIOS dengan menekan F10 saat booting.
2. Setelah melakukan Instalasi windows jalankan file BIOS F.11E yang sudah saya sertakan dibawah ini, lalu setelah ter-extract jalankan winplash.bat, setelah itu baru jalankan InsydeFlash.exe
3. Downgrade bios ini hanya untuk cq40 dengan processor INTEL
4. Untuk lebih amannya Install ulang windows anda baik XP ataupun Vista.
Jangan melakukan Instalasi aplikasi apapun jika akan melakukan downgrade, karena bisa berakibat sangat fatal
5. Gunakan adaptor untuk melakukan downgrade bios.
6. Pastikan bahwa notebook cq40 anda berstatus garansi,
Hal ini untuk menjaga saat kegagalan dalam melakukan downgrade notebook masih bisa di garansikan
7. Saya tidak menjamin akan keberhasilan saat anda melakukan DOWNGRADE BIOS,
Jadi berpikirlah yang jernih. Jika takut bawa saja ke service center HP terdekat di kota anda

Smart jg demikian, mengeluarkan paket yang sama murah, tetapi Smart memiliki kelemahan pada harga modem yang masih mahal...

so...

Solusi yang akan saya tawarkan adalah kita akan merubah modem mobi kita, yaitu Pantech px 500 dengan koneksi Smart...

Ayo kita mulai...

1. Pertama-tama tentu saja kita harus memiliki Modem Pantech px 500 yang dikeluarkan oleh mobi.(g punya?? beli dulu atuh)

2. Kita hrs memiliki No Smart yang masih aktif (klo dah g Aktif buang aja.. he3X), kita daftarkan paket unlimited silver. dan yang pasti kita harus tau MIN dan ESN Number no Smart kita.--dalam hal ini ada banyak referensi, tapi yang paling mudah adalah tentu saja pergi ke cs Smart dan tanya MIN dan ESN Number-nya--

Setelah kedua hal itu ada maka saatnya beraksi....

Yang akan kita lakukan pertama adalah meng-upgrade Pantech PX 500 ke PC 5750. Caranya...
1. Download Software-nya dulu disini..
2. setelah di downoad jalankan software-nya dan akan terlihat sepreti ini...




pasang modem anda dan pastikan modem tidak terkonect ke internet....
klick "Step 1" tunggu beberapa lama kemudian klik next...




klik "step 2" dan anda akan menginstal QickLink Mobile sekaligus Driver PC 5750...
anda telah berhasil meng-upgrade Pantech PX 500 ke PC 5750. menuju ke langkah berikutnya..

berikutnya kita akan mem-back up file di modem mobi kita...
1. Downlload dan instal QPST disini...
2. hehehe hampir lupa rubah Port Pantech px 500/PC 5750 anda ke COM1 atau COM2. caranya tinggal ganti properties-nya di device manager...










Setelah Pantech PX 500 ter-upgrade ke PC5750 dan file ter-back up, Saatnya kita merubah MIN dan ESN Mobi Dengan Smart.
1. Download CDMA Workshop+Crack Disini... oia sebelum anda meng-ekstrak rar-nya pastikan anda mematikan anti virus anda. hehe maklum Crack. ekstrak dan jalankan CDMA Workshop+Crack
2. Rubah Port menjadi COM1 atau COM2 dan klik Connect. (pastikan modem anda tidak terkoneksi dengan apapun, karena jika iya maka CDMA Workshop+Crack anda tidak akan bisa terkoneksi.



3. Setelah modem terkoneksi dengan CDMA Workshop+Crack maka kita bisa meng-klik read. dan... terlihat semua data yang kita inginkan. oia pastikan anda men-save data anda agar bila terjadi kesalahan, anda bisa dengan mudah mengembalikannya.
4. Ke menu Nam dan rubahlan beberapa data seperti ini :



terakhir klik write dan kembali ke main menu dan disconnect...

langkah berikutnya adalah membaca dan menulis A key
1. download dan instal software-nya disini..
2. jalankan a key reader dan ubah port menjadi COM1 atau COM2
3. masukan ESN Smart dan klik "Write A-key after generation"




anda telah berhasil merubah Mobi menjadi Smart..

langkah berikutnnya adalah...
jalankan alltel QickLink Mobile dan Connect dengan Acces data Evdo 1x...

Remove the Windows Welcome Screen

If you dont want to use "Fast User Switching", you may want to disable the Welcome Screen. You must be logged in as an Administrator to do this. Note:To do this follow the directions below:

1) Click on Start
2) Click on Control Panel
3) Double-click on User Accounts
4) Click on "Change the way users log on or off"
5) Uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" (note: this will also disable "Fast User Switching")
6) Click on Apply Options
7) Close the User Accounts window and the Control Panel

What if I dont want the Welcome Screen OR the classic prompt? Can I disable both?

To Login automatically to a user account, follow the instructions below:

1) Click on Run
2) Type in the following command and click OK

control userpasswords2

3) Highlight the user you want to log into automatically, then uncheck the box for

"Users must enter a username and password to use this computer"

4) Click on Apply and you'll be asked to verify the username and password to log in automatically
5) Click OK and the next time you restart your computer, you'll automatically be logged in without having the classic prompt or Welcome Screen.

Is there a utility I can use to accomplish this?

You can download a utility for Windows XP called TweakUI that will allow you to change the way you log into Windows XP, along with allowing you to change alot of other features.

Satu lagi nih kayaknya yang bakal booming. :) Sejak beberapa hari yang lalu, Telkomsel telah resmi menawarkan paket prabayar Telkomsel Flash yang dapat digunakan untuk kartu Simpati dan Kartu AS. Paket Prabayar yang berbasis volume pemakaian ini menawarkan 4 jenis paket, yaitu Paket 5.000, 20.000, 50.000 dan 100.000 dimana nama paket adalah sekaligus harga yang harus dibayarkan untuk membeli salah satu paket tersebut. Pembelian dapat dilakukan melalui SMS dengan masa aktif dengan masa aktif yang berbeda-beda setiap paketnya. Berikut daftar paket yang ditawarkan Telkomsel melalui web-nya :

Satu lagi, biaya excess usage atau kelebihan pemakaian selama masa aktif paket yang sudah dibeli hanya 1/kb atau 12 kali lebih murah dari tarif normal gprs yang dikenakan oleh Telkomsel untuk Simpati dan KartuAS yaitu 12/kb untuk gprs. Padahal untuk pengguna handset 3g yang berlangganan salah satu dari keempat paket diatas, akan mendapat kecepatan jauh diatas kecepatan gprs, yaitu up to 3,6mbps. Sementara untuk pengguna kartu prabayar Simpati dan KartuAS yang belum menggunakan handset 3g, keempat paket TelkomselFlash prabayar ini tetap dapat digunakan/dibeli untuk dipakai di handset yang hanya mendukung gprs tadi, tentunya dengan kecepatan maksimal gprs yaitu up to 80kbps. Install USB Driver

1. Masukan CD Modem Driver ke CD Drive, klik ganda viausbYSb_Setup.exe lalu klik next ( Saat mulai instalasi, Hape dan kabel USB dalam kondisi tidak terkoneksi ke komputer )
2. Muncul license Agreement, klik Yes, lalu isi informasi pribadi (Username & Company Name (bebas)), lalu klik Next

Setting Internet Connection

1. Masuk ke menu Control Panel, lalu klik ganda Network Connection, lalu klik Create a New Connection, lalu klik Next
2. Pilih Connect to the Internet, lalu klik Next
3. Pilih Set up my connection manually, lalu pilih Next
4. Pilih Connect using a dial-up modem, lalu klik Next
5. Pilih Modem VIA Telecom CBP USB Modem, lalu klik Next
6. Masukan , lalu klik Next
7. Masukan #777, lalu klik Next
8. Masukan username : smart , password : smart
klik Next dan setting modem connection selesai. Setelah proses instalasi selesai, HP Modem bisa digunakan. Jika dialing pertama belum berhasil, silahkan reset HP dan mulai proses redial kembali

NB : Untuk menaikan kecepatan modem tersebut lebih baik mencari sinyal hingga 4 ++ karena jika sinyal dibawah 3 koneksi internetnya akan mati.. Semakin besar sinyal semakin baik pula koneksi internetnya..

Wireless Router Configuration

Now we can start to configure wireless router, and I will use Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router as an example. This router supports 802.11g and backward compatible with 802.11b standard. The authentications supported are WEP, WPA/WPA2 authentication with pre-shared key or RADIUS server. In case you plan to get a new router, I recommend you to get one of these wireless routers.

Read the router manual before starting to configure it. This is useful for you to understand the router features and how to configure it. If the manual is not came together with router, you can download it from vendor website.

Sometimes the vendor will prepare some quick setup wizard to expedite router configuration, but I’m not going to explain this method here. I will explain some important and common setting which will be found in most of the wireless routers from different vendors, so you can use wizard to start the installation and then check out the details here.

Also register your product at vendor website if possible. You will be notified of firmware update, security alert and also product related information.

Open your popular web browser (Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape Communicator), then type http://192.168.1.1 and press "Enter". This IP address is factory default IP assigned to the router, you will be able to find it in wireless router manual. That’s why I said it’s important to read the manual.

You need to set computer with the IP sits in the network same as wireless router, so you can only access and configure it. In this scenario, I set computer IP as 192.168.1.10 (you can set 192.168.1.X, X= number between 2 and 254), netmask as 255.255.255.0 and gateway as 192.168.1.1.

Web Access Router

After that, the logon screen will pop up, type in default user and password you found in router manual also. You will then log on to the router web-management page.

Here are the router settings that similar to wired network router.

WAN (Wide Area Network) Setting
LAN (Local Area Network) Setting
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Setting

These are additional setup that required to make wireless router works.

SSID and Other Basic Wireless Settings

WAN (Wide Area Network) Setting

First go to Setup tab and click Basic Setup, this is the place you set public IP address provided by your ISP in order to access Internet. It can be one of these 5 options:

Automatic Configuration – DHCP - Choose this option to obtain an IP address automatically from your ISP. (For most cable modem users). Optionally key in a name for this router. The default MAC address is set to the WAN’s MAC address on the router.

Sometimes you will need to clone MAC address under MAC Address Clone tab. This feature is required by cable modem users with the service registration via computer network card’s MAC address. That means the ISP will authenticate your network card’s MAC address whenever you use the connection service. If so, you will need to click clone MAC address in order to clone the computer network card’s MAC address to your network router. If you are not sure, check with your ISP technical support. Click here to check MAC address of network card.

Static IP - Choose this option to set static IP information provided to you by your ISP. You will required to type in all network information manually if select this option. This option is mostly used by business users. Lot of works if use this option, try to avoid this if possible.

PPPoE - Choose this option if your ISP uses PPPoE. Your ISP will provide you with a username and password. This option is typically used for most DSL services.

PPTP - Same as PPPoE, This option is mostly used by DSL service users with provided username, password and IP information.

L2TP - This option is mostly used by DSL service users is Europe with provided username, password and L2TP server information.

Telstra Cable: This option is mostly used by DSL service users with provided username, password and Heart Beat server information.

As a cable modem user, I will choose Automatic Configuration – DHCP option. I won't clone MAC address because the service registration is tied to cable modem's MAC address.

LAN (Local Area Network) Setting

At the same setup page, set up the IP address for the router. This will be the router/gateway IP address that you will set on your network computers. The LAN IP address is private in your home network and cannot be seen from the internet. I set my router with IP 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Setting

Most of the routers has built-in DHCP server, so does this router. The DHCP server will automatically assign an IP address to the computers in your wireless network. At the same setup page, you must specify the starting IP address, number of users and lease time. Lease time is the length of time for the IP assigned to the computer.

For my case, the starting IP Address is 192.168.1.2, maximum dhcp users is 50 and I set the Lease Time for 1 day (0 minutes).

SSID and Other Basic Wireless Setting

Now click Wireless tab and you will see Basic Wireless Settings. These are unique features for wireless router, it’s not available for those wired routers:

Wireless Network Mode – 3 wireless operating modes are supported, it can be 802.11b (B only), 802.11g (G only) or both (Mixed). I select Mixed, so that wireless client with 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network adapter can join the network.

Wireless Network Name (SSID) – The SSID is the network name of this wireless network and must be identical for all devices in the network. When wireless clients first start up, they scan the wireless frequency band for special beacon frames that content SSID sent by wireless routers or access points, finally connect to the network that preferred by users.

SSID is case-sensitive and must not exceed 32 alphanumeric characters. Change it and don’t use default SSID due to security concern. I set it as home-network.

Wireless Channel - There are 13 wireless channels (1-13) supported. All devices in your wireless network must use the same channel in order to function correctly. I select 13.

Wireless SSID Broadcast - If you enabled this feature, the router will broadcast SSID and would be detected by wireless clients in the network. For security concern, I would recommend you to disable it.

Wireless Network Authentication

Although wireless client can join wireless network without authentication, but it’s dangerous! So please set authentication on wireless router, so that wireless client can only join the network after successful authentication. This router supports legacy WEP and WPA/WPA2 authentication with pre-shared key or RADIUS server.

Usually home users will use WEP, WPA personal or WPA2 personal security mode. WPA/WPA2 features are only available on 802.11g router, whereas WEP is the only authentication feature supported by 802.11b router.

Use WPA personal or WPA2 personal mode if supported by your wireless adapter. You need to supply pre-shared key for authentication. Choose AES as your WPA or WPA2 algorithm.

You can only use WPA-enterprise or WPA2-enterprise if you have set up RADIUS server. This is the WPA/WPA2 authentication with RADIUS server instead of pre-shared key .

If your network card is 802.11b standard, you need to choose WEP option, then set passphrase with 64 and 128 bits encryption.

You can leave group key as it is. This settings determines how often your group key changes.

Since my wireless network card can support WPA2, I use following setting.

You don't have to follow all settings I used above, you can also tune the wireless router as according to your needs.

One last thing that I would like to tell you, if you wish to connect all home computers to access to Internet via this router, please select Gateway mode in Setup->Advanced Routing page and save the setting. If another router exists on your network, then you can select Router mode.
